Funding for the Fiscal Year 2021 North America Marine Debris Prevention and Removal funding opportunity was provided through the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) Implementation Act. The USMCA recognizes the importance of taking action to prevent and reduce marine debris, including plastic litter and microplastics, in order to preserve human health and marine and coastal ecosystems, prevent the loss of biodiversity, and mitigate the costs and impacts of marine debris.

The Foundation is looking for creative and innovative projects that promote safe and clean boating on your local waterway. Past topics have ranged from PSAs on the effects of boating under the influence to hands-on education about the effects of marine debris. The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection Reduce, Reuse, Repair Micro-Grants are awards of up to $5,000 that for-profit and non-profit organizations, regional authorities, and eligible municipalities can use to implement short-term waste reduction projects. Qualifying projects specifically promote source reduction, reuse, or repair in Massachusetts.
